08/16/2017 – Led Zeppelin – Good Times Bad Times

Something a little different than a lot of what I’ve been writing about lately. Also,I apparently wrote about this song over a year ago, but I didn’t remember that so ¯_(ツ)_/¯, we’re doing it again.

During my early 20s I got super into a lot of classic rock, but Led Zeppelin was always my favorite. In my mind they were the heaviest, most stylish, most rocking band of the era. I absorbed all of their albums, even Presence (Achilles Last Stand is still an amazing song) and loved every minute of it. When I was a kid I remember equating Led Zeppelin with shitty car commercials and I always thought of them as cheesy dad rock (the song Rock and Roll was mostly to blame), but once I finally decided to give it a shot I started with Led Zeppelin 1 and from the very beginning notes of Good Times Bad Times I was suddenly hooked.

Every member of the band is firing on all cylinders here, but John Bonham’s drumming steals the show for me. There is so much to this rhythm and he nails it. It never stays with one static boring beat, it dances around it and keeps it interesting. Then he throws in little flairs like the double kick rolls, it’s just awesome.

Also Robert Plant sounds like he just vomits amazing music.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Last Time I heard it: Probably a couple weeks ago. Some friends and I were talking about Classic Rock and I started thinking about Zep again the other day.
