It’s weird that sometimes it’s not a melody or the tune that gets stuck, but just one weird little phrase. In this case it was the “Gotta gotta gotta get out if you wanna get it” at 1:16. Just that little snippet popped into my head last night and prompted a scan through this album to remember what track it was in.

I love Portugal. the Man. I had a roommate who had It’s Complicated Being a Wizard on a constant rotation, which is how I was first introduced to them. In the Mountain in the Clouds was the first album of theirs I got into on my own, and I developed a mild obsession with “All Your Light (Times Like These)” and “So American” for a good while.

I was super excited when I heard about their most recent album, 2013’s Evil Friends and that it would be produced by Danger Mouse. It definitely delivered and stands as my current favorite album of theirs. Danger Mouse brings a strong pop sensibility and you can hear his influence everywhere through the album. It’s also a very fun cohesive album that has strong thematic elements with the repetition of lyrics and musical themes popping up throughout the album. Overall 👌

Last time I heard it: Last night after relentlessly hunting for that one little line. Before that ¯_(ツ)_/¯  I was definitely due to revisit this great album.
