05/24/2017 – The Danger Boys – Special Girl

The Danger Boys are a tough one to pin down. Their 2015 self-titled album is all over the place in tone and style, having some fun and innocent sounding tunes, like “Special Girl” and then some not so innocent but still fun tracks like the dubiously titled “Cunt.”

The album was produced by sometimes Ween bassist and producer/engineer Andrew Weiss, and goes through various stages of pop, punk, R&B, what sounds like a drunken collaboration between Iggy Pop and Prince, and some kind of indescribable metal reggae thing that probably worked better on paper.

Overall, it’s a fun album, available for free to listen on Bandcamp, and is a fun listen when you’re in the mood for something weird.

My rating:

This song specifically: ⭐⭐⭐

The full album: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Last time I heard it: Listened to it on the way to the Doctor’s office yesterday afternoon.
