8/1/2016 – Funkadelic – Can You Get To That?

I’ve been on a bit of a Parliament/Funkadelic kick the past few months after rediscovering the awesomeness of Eddie Hazel on “Maggot Brain.” This song is a bit different from their usual songs. It’s a bit more acoustic and has an almost gospel feel with the vocal harmonies. The song itself seems to be about how to live a better life, and the karmic reciprocal nature of sending love and positivity out in order to receive it in return, but with some of the classic clever P.Funk humor: ‘When you base your life on credit and your loving days are done / Checks you sign with love and kisses later come back signed ‘Insufficient Funds’.

This guitar part of this song was also sampled in Sleigh Bells’s Rill Rill, which is another fun little tune.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (for this song specifically, the whole album and title track are both Five Star jams for sure)

Last time I heard it: Last week, listened to the whole Maggot Brain album while working.

What do you think?
