07/22/16 – Talking Heads – Road to Nowhere

The ’80s have been popping up a lot in my head lately, weirdly. A colleague from work set up an ’80s Spotify playlist which I perused but didn’t really get into, but reminded me of some solid ’80s songs. I tend to say I hate the ’80s, and mostly ignore it, but there are some great bands from that time period that I need to remember and shouldn’t discount just because of their time period. Talking Heads is definitely one of those bands.

This song is one of the funnest, most joyful songs about the world hurdling towards it’s inevitable destruction. The gospel part at the beginning does a great job of setting the tone and it goes into a high energy fun little jam for the rest of the tune. Talking Heads always seem to do a great job of straddling the line between the serious and the ridiculous, taking a very tongue-in-cheek look at serious topics and pointing out how silly they are.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Last time I heard it: Pretty sure on a road trip to Dallas a month or two ago.
