The Pharcyde was another one of the groups that got me into hip-hop and rap when I was younger. “Passin’ Me By” (which is also running around in my head this morning) was one of the first rap songs I ever knew the lyrics to completely, and I loved basically the entirety of 1992’s Bizarre Ride 2. I feel like a lot of the songs don’t hold up as well these days, but the 90s were a very different time.

This song is actually from their second album Labcabincalifornia, which was never as successful, but still had some great songs (see Drop sampling The Beastie Boys and with a video directed by Spike Jonze). This track was actually produced by J Dilla, which is pretty awesome

Last time I heard it: Not totally sure, sometime in the last six months, but I was thinking about Pharcyde recently after watching the promos for the new Donald Glover show Atlanta because they’re very reminiscent of the Drop video.
